CrunchGear received a tip that Microsoft is working on its very own phone to be branded under the Zune moniker. The inform that Microsoft execs are in meetings today hammering out details of the device and developing strategies and timescales for its release.
Also, it's going to be able to stream data to and from the Xbox 360, which means you may be able to watch those downloaded videos on your phone, or, stream music to your 360.

Microsoft has spent the last decade trying to crack the TV market with billion-dollar investments in cable and telecom companies, numerous attempts at moving into the set-top box with limited success and an acquisition of WebTV, a service to allow people to browse the Internet through a TV set.

The Zune should have a 30GB drive, black, brown, and cotton color options, FM tuner, 13 first party accerrories available at launch and a 50% larger screen than the iPod with video (making it 3.75-inches if you're talking diagonal, and not areal). Microsoft forecast another year of losses at its mobile phone, games and device business before turning a profit in the business year ending June 30, 2008.

Microsoft's so-called "iPod killer" could be unveiled as early as late next month, with the company preparing to build momentum towards an October launch.
These latest developments indicate that Apple has only a short period of time to react before a barrage of marketing and publicity surrounds Microsoft's new device. To its defense, Apple told analysts in an earnings call Wednesday night that it "wasn't standing still."
