The aim of the project run by Mitsubishi, Citizen, Sharp, Hitachi and Tanita is to establish a standard that allows heart monitors, exercise bikes, treadmills and the like to share data with each other, either through cables or wirelessly. The consequent accumulation of information will be used to keep track of an individual’s wellbeing every time he or she uses any piece of equipment.

Sharp VGA Fingerprint Reading Touch-Screen

Developed in Sharp’s European labs the new VGA touchscreen features 640×480 300 ppi resolution, 30fps frame rate and has built-in image sensor that can read your fingerprints.

The screen will be used in cellphones and will add touchscreen and biometric sensor functions to them.

As demonstrated in Samsung SCH - V960 Joystick phone, the fingerprint reading ability also gives Sharp the possibility to implement touchscreen scrolling function similar to that on Apple iPhone, in a way that is not covered by multiple Apple patents.

Matsushita and three other Japanese electronics makers plan to develop a join standard for new Internet televisions that will make it easier for people to see video available on the Web.

The Internet TVs will features a remote control that allows online access with the touch of a button and will also eliminate the need for a personal computer keyboard to make the gadget more user-friendly.

The new televisions will use Linux operating systems instead of Microsoft Windows, it added. That feature is aimed at cutting the time needed to boot...
