Similar to the OLPC (One Laptop per Child) program that MIT birthed in early 2005, the ClassMatePC is an effort from Intel to provide cheap laptops to children in developing countries. Designed to be lightweight, rugged, and partially water resistant, the device clearly favors practicality to performance. Unfortunately, the laptop's technical specifications only weigh in at a 900MHz Celeron processor, 256MB of RAM, and a tiny--but speedy--flash based 1GB hard drive. I guess anything to keep costs low.

You hear about it, but it’s hard to really visualize until you see it happening. Here’s a video of an exploding laptop battery. Watch the entire thing. Multiple small explosions and a couple bigger ones with 3 foot flames.
This demonstration was done in a controlled enviroment. Don’t try this at home!

In a time when you're not even allowed to say the word "bomb" in an airport, it's got to be like, really freaking embarrassing to have to run up the jetway at full speed, shoving other passengers out of the way as your flaming laptop explodes on the ground.
According to an eyewitness, passersby stared aghast or fled crying terrorist, the ThinkPad apparently had a number of death throes as the fire went through various phases, until eventually a United employee busted out the fire extinguisher and laid the laptop to rest.

A Florida man has leaped onto the Dell laptop explosion bandwagon by claiming his house was burnt to a crisp because a Dell laptop ignited his couch on fire. At about 5 a.m. Louis Minnear awoke to the smell of an electrical fire, after quickly surveying his house and finding nothing, he went back to bed. Forty-five minutes later he was awoken again, except this time to his couch on fire.
