DIRECTV and DISH drop out of spectrum auction

The spectrum auction currently underway in the US for 90MHz of spectrum lost a major bidder when Wireless DBS LLC, a venture with the financial backing of DIRECTV and DISH Network, threw in the towel. As a result, the two satellite TV providers are out in the cold when it comes to getting a cut of the freed-up spectrum.
