NVidia, AMD Subpoenaed in Antitrust Investigation
Nvidia said Friday that it received a subpoena from the Department of Justice as part of an probe into potential antitrust violations involving graphics processing units and cards.
AMD said late Thursday that it was also subpoenaed as part of a DOJ investigation into the graphics processing market. AMD entered that business in October when it acquired Canadian firm ATI Technologies Inc.
Nvidia and AMD each control about 25 percent of the market for graphics chips and cards that are used in personal computers, mobile handsets, video game consoles and other devices, with Intel Corp. controlling the rest, according to Nicholas Aberle, an analyst with Caris & Co.
