4 Teens say they're not bad apples... detained for downloading on Apple store's iPhones
To four Palo Alto teenagers raised in the heart of Silicon Valley, the penalty came as a crushing blow - banishment from all Apple stores worldwide, for life.
Their crime, the teens said, was downloading a third-party car racing game onto iPhones at Apple's University Avenue store last weekend. For that, the two Palo Alto High School students and two recent graduates said they were detained 2 1/2 hours at the store and permanently banned by...

The wraps have been taken off the new version of the XO laptop designed for schoolchildren in developing countries.
The revamped machine created by the One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) project looks like an e-book and has had its price slashed to $75 per device.

We don’t wish to make any prophecies – but if we fail to do more to mitigate today’s cultural, climatic, and economic dangers, the future may not be a pleasant one. Natural disasters will become...

The Sarcos XOS exoskeleton is a thing of beauty, terror and every little boys dreams. Sarcos have been developing exoskeleton’s for the military for seven years now and since Raytheon bought them up in November things seem to have gone full speed ahead with announcements it will be field tested sometime next year. Capable of lifting 200lb weights with ease, the exoskeleton isn’t just only a funky suit but also a potential side-kick - when the user steps out of the suit it has the potential to become a fully autonomous robot.

Microsoft has launched a technical preview of its new Live Mesh service, which is basically combines remote desktop, online storage, and file synchronization services. Right now the service is available for Windows XP and Vista, but eventually support will be added for OS X, mobile phones, and other devices. And when we say "available," we mean Microsoft allowed 10,000 people to sign up for the first round of testing. All of those slots are full, but you can sign up for the waiting list.

Calling the situation "untenable" and describing Windows as "collapsing," a pair of Gartner analysts yesterday said Microsoft Corp. must make radical changes to its operating system or risk becoming a has-been.
In a presentation at a Gartner-sponsored conference in Las Vegas, analysts Michael Silver and Neil MacDonald said Microsoft has not responded to the market, is overburdened by nearly two decades of legacy code and decisions, and faces serious competition on a whole host of fronts that will make Windows moot unless the software...

Previously code-named Silverthorne, the Atom processor initially comes in five variants ranging from 800MHz to 1.86GHz, taking average power from 160mW to...
